1987 VW Vanagon Syncro for Sale, Found this one on Craigslist asking $14,999 located in Los Angeles, California. This all-terrain vehicle offered by Volkswagen in the 80-the 90s is the third generation of the Type 2 lineage, fitted with the Syncro 4x4 system which is a different system than usual 4x4 cars use. The Syncro well known as the automatic 4x4 drivetrain, are using silicone liquid to make 4x4 work. So just need replaced the liquid when 4x4 not working.

For sale is a 1987 VW Vanagon Syncro (with rear locker) 7-Passenger Tintop with 150,250 miles. The van is good condition overall, with some rust in known areas (namely the driver/passenger front-door doglegs, see pics for other areas), dents & scratches from use over the years, and a mostly complete interior (the center carpet section is missing).

This van is mostly stock & original, with very few known non-OEM parts (thermometer, Sony Radio & Speakers, etc). The van starts, runs and drives but will need an overhaul to get it back on the road. AC non-operational (fan turns on and blows, but AC not working). I purchased this van from a seller in Portland, OR and had it shipped to Los Angeles with the intention of a complete rebuild, but priorities have shifted so this van will be sold. I also have a new-in-box Roof Rack available, as well as a set of Scheel-Mann seats and matching interior panels/seat covers that can be purchased together as a package.

Van is sold as-is with a clean OR title. Price is OBO and willing to put a package deal together incl. van, roof-rack and interior “kit”.

1989 VW Syncro Doka Turbo Diesel for Sale, found this one in Craigslist asking $19900 located in Bellevue, Washington. It's a 4x4 vehicle was come from VW Type 2 families, are use a Syncro system which is different than usual 4x4 cars use. The Syncro is automatic 4x4 drivetrain, not permanent 4x4 as AWD and can't be changed as usually 4WD. Thanks to a silicone liquid, when he started hot and begins thicken it make 4x4 has work. So don't surprised if you're newly drives the Syncro, it's no has different feel, same as you driving a FWD car when at normal roads.

So if you feel 4x4 doesn't work, the first thing is check silicone liquid condition, may he was expired or exhausted immediately need to renewed, are it same as lubricant engine.

Parts Availability:
Engine: Readily available locally or online due in fact that it's the same engine used in the VW Golf, Jetta, Rabbit, Vanagon of that era, the parts are the same. Any shop that's worked on those vehicles can work on this.

Body: Most body parts are interchangeable with that of an equivalent Vanagon

This engine is the original Euro-spec power plant for this truck, not a gas to diesel conversion or added turbo. My understanding is the North American 1.6L diesel engine used for the US market in the early 1980s was considerably underpowered, not the case with this one, plenty of power.

Well it's a 1988 than was shipped to the US from Europe last year. It has rust in the typical spots and will need some work ( front wheel wells, will need to be replaced also has rust on back wells and truck bed) the engine runs great, it has the 1.6 turbo diesel and I drove back from Northern California in April and was getting 30+ MPG, runs great. New battery as well. Brakes are good and the clutch was replaced here in town last month along with an eng oil change, transmission oil change and a fuel filter change (I have the paperwork as well) the original color was blue but as you can see from the photos it was painted red. Inside the treasure chest looks good bur as its spent most of its life in Europe it has some surface rust there as well. The front seats are not original but they are from a vanagon. The back seat is there as well and is in good shape for its age. Tires have good rubber on them also has a European tow hitch on it. It drives great for a 27 year old work truck. The heater works great but it has no AC. All the door locks work and I have 2 keys for it. All the glass it there. If you have any questions just let me know as I am sure I am forgetting something. Will consider trades.
